Duppy Carpenter
Video installation. Collaboration with Christopher Mark Jones a Kingston, Jamaica native and fellow resident at the Rocktowa artist residency. Chris creates furniture and sculpture from shipping pallets and we wanted to incorporate his sculptural forms into a video piece. We filmed Chris sitting on each of the chairs and then later composited and projection mapped him back onto the actual chairs. The end result was a subtle piece where two versions of Chris have a non-verbal interaction with each other. The title is a play on words from the Bob Marley song “Duppy Conqueror” (duppy is slang for ghost). “I leave a small ghost of myself in every thing I build and this piece pays homage to that” - Christopher Mark Jones.
